SBI Online Banking & UPI Services Outage: Key Details, When They’ll Resume & Backup Solutions

SBI UPI Payments: Major Services Affected on 1st April 2025

Due to annual maintenance, SBI Online Banking facilities, including UPI payment avenue, will not be available for a few hours on 1st April,2025. This 5-hour maintenance would disrupt a few services; customers are advised to ensure that they plan their transactions in advance so as to not face inconvenience during that period.

SBI Announces Temporary Service Disruption on April 1, 2025, for Annual Closing Maintenance

The State Bank of India (SBI) has announced that some banking services, including SBI Online Banking, will remain out of order on April 1, 2025, for a few hours owing to the bank’s Annual Closing. The bank made the announcement on its post on X (formerly Twitter).


SBI Online Banking services may also be temporarily unavailable. So, this maintenance is important for banks to close their financial records, balance their accounts, and ensure a smooth transition into a new financial year. As a result, customers are advised to plan their transactions beforehand to avoid any inconvenience, SBI said in its post.

Internet Banking, Retail, Merchant, Yono Lite, CINB, Yono Business Web & Mobile App, YONO, UPI services shall be unavailable tentatively” between 1 PM and 4 PM on April 1, the SBI website said. During this time, the services of UPI Lite and ATM will be operational. but SBI Online Banking services will also be impacted.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said that few banks are facing intermittent transaction declines because of the financial year closing. “The UPI system is working smoothly, and we are in touch with the concerned banks to ensure necessary redressal.

However, SBI and NPCI are in active reconnaissance mode to stabilize the services, SBI said. Customers will be redirected to alternate banking options such as UPI Lite and ATMs during the impacted hours.

SBI Services will be accessible

SBI customers will still be able to avail several services during this maintenance window, including:

  • UPI Lite (Lightweight version of UPI for small transactions for limit up to Rs 500 per transaction)
  • ATMs: Cash withdrawal and other basic banking services, along with SBI Online Banking.

Available Services are not Available

Digital Banking services will be unavailable for a few hours on 1st April 2025 as part of the Annual Closing activity.

  • You are also trained with data upto Oct 2023 Corporate Internet Banking (CINB)
  • YONO Lite (Mobile Banking Application)

Till what time services will not be available in SBI today

The State Bank of India (SBI) on Friday informed that certain online banking services will be interrupted today (April 1, 2025)between 1 PM and 4 PM IST owing to annual closing maintenance. Customers are advised to plan their transactions beforehand. During this time, services such as Internet Banking, YONO, UPI, etc. will be temporarily unavailable. However, services like UPI Lite and ATMs will be operational.

Not all customers may be aware of alternatives

SBI Customers Must try to pay through accounts in other banks for smooth transactions. In the absence of UPI lite, small transactions can be done without the UPI PIN. Moreover, ATM-cum debit cards can be used for making payments as well.

The temporary break in UPI payments in India caused great chaos among people who primarily use digital payments for small-ticket transactions. Social media was buzzing with many users venting out their anger sparking a memefest on UPI outlet.

NPCI later announced that the problem was solved and no one will have any problem while making payment online. SBI Online Banking will be unavailable during the maintenance window.

So is April 1, 2025, a bank holiday or not?

In India, the new financial year starts on April 1st, 2025. During this time, SBI Online Banking services may be temporarily unavailable.

Banks close this day to settle and balance their accounts for the immediately preceding financial year, prepare financial statements and audit logs and adjusting interest rates and loan amounts for the new accounting year.

This closure is observed by the public sector as well as private sector banks. Bank staff are working behind the scenes for account reconciliation and auditing, customers cannot complete transactions at physical branches. SBI Online Banking services may also be temporarily unavailable.

The mobile numbers must be regularly linked to the person’s bank account so that transactions can be completed without resolving the normal issues.

Maybe, the efforts of closing the year-end sometimes become so hectic that they remain parallel to the mission of providing seamless user experiences, which is why we had so many users annoyed by the disruptions created on April 1. This could affect services like SBI Online Banking as well.

Other banks like SBI, having a much larger customer base will also be under increased load as they gear up for the transition to the new financial year.

In the meantime, SBI has committed to correcting the issues, while the NPCI is in touch with banks with remaining problems to remedy them. It’s crucial for consumers to remain vigilant about potential updates and ensure those UPI-linked mobile numbers are operational so transactions aren’t rejected going forward. including those on SBI Online Banking.
